Botox

This article will briefly discuss botulinum toxin products (this includes botox, dysport, xeomin).

I see many clients in my practice that present with numerous seemingly unrelated health concerns ranging from mild to severe. Although the initial health questionnaire asks clients to list current medications, most neglect to list botulinum toxin products. This is because they think of these products as simply a “cosmetic” product when nothing could be further from the truth.

A large percentage of people that consult with me are already aware of the potential dangers of neurotoxins such as mercury, lead, aluminum, etc. and many are already making an effort to eat organic foods grown without pesticides. But most are unaware that botulinum toxin products are far more dangerous and toxic than any of the above. Botulinum toxin is THE MOST TOXIC substance on the planet. It is the most powerful NEUROTOXIN known to man.  (Neurotoxin = toxic to nerves.)

Botulinum toxin binds to nerve fibers and cleaves (or cuts) specific proteins involved with the release of acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that is released at the end of a nerve fiber to stimulate muscle contractions among other things. It is considered a chief neurotransmitter because it is involved in so many body functions. Botulinum toxin works by inhibiting acetylcholine release, paralyzing or partially paralyzing the muscles it is exposed to.

Unfortunately, when the botulinum toxin migrates to other areas of your body it interferes with the acetylcholine receptors in its path, damaging their function. There are acetylcholine receptors throughout your entire nervous system.

Botulinum toxin does not stay at the injection site and spreads every time it is injected.

According to the Journal of Neuroscience, after botulinum toxin was injected under the skin, it leached into the bloodstream, moved through the body and into the brain. Three days after injection into the face, botulinum toxin was found in the brain stem and cell activity was abnormal at both the injection site and in areas throughout the body.

In another study done by Dr Caleo in Italy, it was found that botulinum toxin traveled through the nervous system and into the spine and brain.

Any substance injected into the human body will travel away from the injection site, botulinum toxin is no exception.

In a study done at the University of Calgary, researchers found that not only did the botulinum toxin travel to distant areas in the body but there was atrophying (muscle wastage) in the muscles of the body that were far away from the injection site.

Clinicians that inject botulinum toxin products that say the products are “safe” or as “safe as aspirin” are either totally ignorant of the actual research done on these products or are choosing to withhold the truth due to financial gain.

Since 2009, clinicians injecting botulinum toxin products have been required to inform potential clients that the products now have a black box warning, that there is a risk of contracting botulism, a risk of autoimmune reactions as well as several other potential side effects. Most receiving injections are also unaware that botulinum toxin products contain human blood products and that carries many potential risks as well. A large percentage of physicians/clinicians are still not informing clients of the real risks which are the same even when small doses are given for cosmetic purposes.

The patient medication guides for these toxic products state that side effects can occur immediately after injections and up to several weeks after. If a severe side effect occurs immediately after injections, it is easy to connect the side effects to the injections; however, many people experience side effects that occur days or even several weeks after being injected, with side effects appearing anywhere in the body making it difficult to connect them to the injections.

Furthermore, even when people do suspect their symptoms are related to the injections and they report the side effects to their physician or injecting clinician, they are often told their symptoms “cannot possibly be related to the injections”, and that their clinician has “never heard of that before”, even though the symptoms that they are concerned about are clearly listed as possible side effects in the medication literature!

Any body system can be affected which is why symptoms can seem random and unconnected. Essentially, the toxin causes dysautonomia, dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system. If you experience any of the above side effects, it is a sign the toxin has spread.

The nerves in the human body are connected through nerve pathways or nerve “highways” that intersect at different places in the body. When botulinum toxin spreads, the resulting symptoms depend on what nerves have been affected and to what extent the damage is which is why symptoms can range from mild to severe. As all nerve pathways are connected, botulinum toxin can spread throughout the whole body along those pathways.

If you have been getting botulinum toxin injections and so far have “seemed fine”, consider yourself fortunate but understand that does not mean that your body is not being harmed or compromised from them in some way. I have clients who have received them previously and seemed “fine” yet developed mysterious “out of the blue” autoimmune and/or other conditions. Just because you have not had a severe noticeable reaction does not mean that you are not being affected or that you will not have a severe reaction with future injections. Injecting a poison willingly into your body is never a good idea particularly when that poison is the most toxic one on the planet.
